ARCADIS AYH plc has successfully project managed Castlemore Securities Ltd £400million mixed use development in Sheffield to an Outline Planning Application. West Bar Sheffield will comprise 1.8million square feet of urban space, including 700 apartments and 900,000 sq ft of office space, a boutique hotel, leisure and retail facilities, bars and restaurants and car parking.
The idea behind West Bar is to create a framework for the development of the site, generating a tightly knit, stylish and sustainable urban community that will grow organically. This new city centre quarter will have a unique feel, with a sense that this development is a natural extension of the city.
Alan Cole, Sector Director at ARCADIS AYH comments: "We are delighted to be part of a prestigious and sustainable city centre project which significantly contributes to the increasing standards for mixed use developments in the UK. The challenge will lie in delivering the overall vision to create 'a piece of a traditional city', whilst coordinating and delivering different design approaches for each building.
"West Bar will play a key role in investing in the city centre, as well as affording significant economic benefits for the city and immediate localities, evolving a vibrant sense of place and lively social environment, with a better use of space and wider choice of amenities."
Each building will be set within a high quality public realm, creating a destination where people will want to linger and interact, establishing a vibrant sense of place, day and night.
The development will have good public transport links and will feature good quality pedestrian and cycle routes to help connect adjacent communities into the main City Centre pedestrian cycle network.
The seven acre site is bordered by West Bar, Corporation Street and Bridge Street to the West of the city centre. West Bar is aimed at the professional, financial and legal sectors and will transform a semi-vacant site at the centre of Sheffield's new Legal Quarter.
Castlemore Securities Ltd is the developer. They signed a development agreement with Sheffield City Council in May.
